About this funding

The Alden and Vada Dow Family Foundations fund programs in health and human services, the arts, education, the environment, and civic and community life. Funding is limited to nonprofit organizations located in Michigan, with a focus on the Midland/Bay/Saginaw area and areas north. Operating support is available.

Eligibility: organizations tax-exempt under IRC 501(c)(3) that are not private foundations under 509(a). Organizations may apply through a fiscal sponsor that meets those criteria and provides written authorization. Grants are not awarded to individuals.

How to apply

There is one funding cycle each year.

1. Letter of Inquiry — due April 1. Only required if your organization has never applied or has not received a grant in the last three years.

2. Full Proposal — due May 31, by invitation if selected (or directly if you have received a grant in the last three years).

Applications are submitted through the Blackbaud Grantmaking portal (new from January 1, 2026; application history restarts in the new portal). The system will not accept submissions after the deadline, so submit well ahead. Add noreply@yourcause.com to your safe senders list.
