The Davis Family Foundation funds project-specific requests from 501(c)(3) organizations (509(a)(1) or (2)) whose primary purpose is education, health or cultural/arts, with priority for Southern Maine, then the rest of Maine and New England (projects must impact Maine learners). Education applicants include colleges, universities, accredited institutions and education organizations that work directly with schools, use certified teachers, follow a curriculum tied to Maine standards, or offer credit or certification. Ideal education projects are innovative, research-based and involve educators in design and delivery. Pilots of new programs are encouraged. Public elementary and secondary schools, RSUs, towns and individuals are not eligible; charter schools are eligible for startup funds only. Scholarships, fellowships, endowments, general operating costs, multi-year grants and overhead are not funded. Returning grantees must wait 24 months (education/medical) or 36 months (cultural/arts) and have filed a completion report.
