Who can apply

These programs accept applications from schools as institutions. Some are open to all school types; others restrict eligibility to public schools, Title I schools, rural schools or schools in specific states. The eligibility section of each listing states exactly which school types qualify.

How to apply

School-level applications usually need an administrator as the applicant of record, a clear project plan and a budget. Check whether your district requires central-office approval before you apply — some districts require all grant applications to go through a grants office.

Frequently asked questions

Can a charter or private school apply?
It depends on the funder. Many foundation and corporate programs are open to all school types, while state and federal programs are often limited to public schools. Each listing states which school types are eligible.
Who should be the applicant — the teacher or the school?
For school-level programs, the school is the legal applicant and funds are paid to the school. A teacher or project lead usually writes the proposal with an administrator's sign-off.
