How to write a winning teacher grant

A practical structure for classroom grant proposals that reviewers can say yes to.

Start with the student need

Describe the specific problem your students face, with one or two concrete data points. Reviewers fund outcomes, not purchases.

Match the funder's priorities

Read the funder's stated goals and mirror their language. If they fund hands-on STEM, show exactly how students will be hands-on.

Keep the budget simple and justified

List each item, its cost and why it is necessary. Avoid padding — small, precise budgets build trust.

Explain how you will measure success

Name one or two measurable outcomes and how you will collect evidence.

Always verify with the funder

Confirm eligibility, deadlines and allowable costs on the official funder website before you submit.
